Officer Pradeep Tamang - Gwinnett County Police Department - Georgia

On February 1, 2026, officers from the Gwinnett County Police Department were dispatched to a fraud and forgery call at the Holiday Inn at the 1700 block of East Park Place Boulevard in Stone Mountain, Georgia.

When Officer Pradeep Tamang and Master Police Officer David M. Reed arrived at the hotel around 7:30 a.m., the suspect invited them into his hotel room.  While inside, the suspect pulled out a gun and fired at both officers.  One of the officers returned fire, striking the shooter. 

Additional officers arrived on scene and rendered aid to the officers and the suspect.  Officer Tamang was transported to Northside Gwinnett Hospital and succumbed to his injuries.  Officer David Reed survived.  

The suspect, who has multiple felony convictions and active warrants, was initially taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening wounds and is in custody. He has been charged with malice murder, felony murder, two counts of aggravated assault against law enforcement, and receipt, possession, or transfer of a firearm.

Officer Pradeep Tamang joined the Gwinnett County Police Department in July 2024 and graduated from the 121st Police Academy in May 2025.  He had previously served as a Correctional officer with the Dauphin County Prison in Pennsylvania.  His is survived by a brother and fiancée.

As part of our "Plaques for Heroes" mission, engraved slate memorial plaques were sent to the Gwinnett County Police Department and to Officer Pradeep Tamang's  family at no cost to honor his service and his sacrifice to the community of Gwinnett County, Georgia.
